Beatloafe

Emerging from a background singing in a cathedral choir, and with a love of music from Shostakovich to Shy FX, Jacob Ross decided to turn his demo copy of Fruity Loops into an outlet for making electronica. The initial result wasn’t very good, but it started off something that couldn’t be finished (not for a while, anyway). After a pub session with some friends, the name Beatloafe was born.

Beatloafe’s music attempts to combine twitchy, off-kilter Garage beats with heavy bass and rich electronic melodies. Live laptop sets have evolved to become a quick-fire mix through Garage, Dubstep, tongue-in-cheek Pop samples and old-school Jungle, all topped off with a trimming of live keyboards.

Recent back-to-back laptop sets with electronic genius/madman Alphabet’s Heaven have proven to be fruitful, involving a lot of head scratching, Dub effects straight from the iPhone, and the kind of mixing that occurs when neither party knows what the other is going to do next. A recent remix of the Beatloafe track “I Am Fungus” by GLP managed to smash up dancefloors across the country at the hands of DJs Pdex and Apply the Breaks. Beatloafe has also appeared with a live laptop set for the internet radio station Nu Skool Breaks, on the Armitage Skanks show. When he is not wallowing in beat filth, Beatloafe likes to play guitar for the bands Tigernaut and Kid Karoshi.
