Red Riding

Red Riding are an electronic music duo formed in early 2011 and comprised of singer Uschi Bittner and producer George Harris. Based in London and currently working on their debut EP, “Fragments of Fiction” the pair record and produce their tracks in a centrally based studio. The music is strongly influenced by 80s electro and EBM with influences of dubstep, drum n bass, hip-hop and disco with heavy noise and electro sounds. As big fans of analogue synthesis and samples stripped from vintage vinyl, Red Riding veer away from using out-of-the-box loops and much of the beats and songs are initially constructed from scratch on an Akai MPC 500 and later translated onto a laptop for mixing, vocal recording and production. A number of outboard desktop synthesizers provide the heavy synth leads.
Red Riding definitely tend towards making “songs” as opposed to just instrumentals and their influences include Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Daft Punk and UNKLE. As strong believers that lyrics are often integral to the message behind a song, Red Riding’s dark stories are often concealed behind music that sometimes feels bright and energetic. The lyrics are seeped in first person paranoia and sit beneath the surface, delving into a surreal, self perpetuating or narcotically induced psychosis.
The tracks “Figure it out” and “Fragments of Fiction” were both originally conceived under the “Enter The Goatlab” moniker used by George for solo productions and were revisited in 2011 with the arrival of Uschi and formation of Red Riding.
The name “Red Riding” is believed to have come from David Pearce’s quartet of books published between 1999 and 2002.
